NYC Lawyer Misconduct Attorneys

The Catafago Law Firm, P.C.

Founded in 1990, the Catafago Law Firm is committed to representing victims of legal malfeasance with honesty and integrity, restoring their faith in the legal profession. Although the firm's practice is concentrated in commercial litigation, its experience and knowledge are diverse. For instance, the firm obtained the largest punitive damage jury verdict to be awarded to a single person, a homeless person, in a Section 1983 civil rights case. More recently, after a federal jury trial lasting over a month, and involving 25 witnesses' testimony concerning hundreds of exhibits, the firm prevailed on complex fraud case representing Air China (one of the largest airlines in the world), with a verdict in excess of $3.9 Million.

About the Firm

The Catafago Law Firm, P.C., has been awarded a distinguished designation by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, which lists Jacques Catafago as one of the Preeminent Lawyers in America, the publication's highest accolade. The firm is also AV-rated under Martindale-Hubbell's peer review rating system, the highest rating available for a law firm's legal ability, expertise and standard of ethics. The AV rating* resulted from an extensive and confidential polling of other members of the legal profession in New York City and the surrounding communities.

The firm has used its knowledge, skill and experience to protect the rights of individuals and businesses that have suffered loss because of legal malpractice. For example, in Walker v. Weinstock, the firm successfully litigated to invalidate an unconscionable contract between a lawyer and his client, an agreement that would have given the lawyer an 80 percent interest in a $4 million piece of real property. Though the victory was gratifying for the client, it was also satisfying for the firm as part of its effort to hold other lawyers accountable for the too frequent abuse that occurs. In fact, the judge, in ruling for the firm's client, stated that this was "a circumstance which gives rise to the growing public distrust in the legal profession, and must be rooted out wherever possible."

It is the goal of the Catafago Law Firm to maintain the highest professional standards in its practice at all times and to eliminate by way of example any public distrust of the legal profession.
